Job summary

SoftPath Medical seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for the ICU at our Georgia facility. This role covers Critical Care units including Neurology Stepdown, Cardiac Stepdown, and Medical/Surgical/Telemetry floors with 26 ICU beds.

Candidates should have strong critical care skills and be prepared to work 7:00 am – 7:00 pm or 7:00 pm – 7:00 am. Applicants must have minimum 2 years in the specialty, be comfortable floating across units, and contribute to a collaborative, safety‑focused team.

Qualifications

• ED RN requires ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, TNCC; CPI training provided
• ICU RN requires ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, CPI; TNCC preferred
• PCU/Med-tele RN requires ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, CPI
• Two nurses are required to place Foley catheters

Responsibilities

• Provide care in ED/ICU across units per protocol
• Monitor arrhythmias and titratable drips
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team for patient care

Registered Nurse - ICU

Facility Overview

• 361 licensed beds
• Level 2 Trauma Designation
• Teaching Hospital with Residency Program
• Chest Pain Center
• Stroke Center

Department Details

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in the specialty required
• First-time travelers may be considered but are not preferred

Patient Types and Common Diagnoses

Emergency Department (ED)

• General ED population for Level 2 Trauma including chest pain/cardiac events, stroke, trauma such as gunshot wounds, stabbings, motor vehicle collisions, falls, respiratory illnesses, seizures, abdominal illnesses and infections, alcohol withdrawal (ETOH/CIWA), intravenous drug abuse (IVDA), and mental health cases

Medical-Surgical Floors

• 3 MedSurg (Overflow & difficult to place patients – 27 beds): Syncope, fever and chills, intractable nausea/vomiting, failure to thrive, cellulitis, vascular dementia, cerebrovascular disease, history of CVA
• 3 North (Oncology – 20 beds): Immunocompromised patients, cancer patients, end-of-life care, respite, palliative care, chemotherapy infusions (unit relocating soon)
• 4 East (Orthopedics – 16 beds): Medical and surgical orthopedic patients including fractures (open & closed), motor vehicle collisions, trauma, Buck’s traction
• 4 South (General Surgery & Trauma – 36 beds): Ureteral stones, goiter, hernia, uterine fibroids, renal mass, diverticulitis with perforation, MVC, trauma, bowel obstruction, breast cancer for mastectomy, hematuria (irrigation), fetal demise, dilation and curettage (DNC)
• 4 Central (Pulmonology – 22 beds): Acute respiratory failure, hyperglycemia, sepsis, metabolic encephalopathy, dementia, COPD, acute kidney injury, failure to thrive, pneumonia (uses Glucommander)
• 6 Central (Vascular & Bariatric Surgery – 19 beds): End-stage renal disease, foot ulcers, peripheral vascular disease, morbid obesity (vascular and gastric bypass surgeries, also uses Glucommander)

Critical Care Units

• 4 West (Neurology Stepdown – 23 beds): Stroke, seizures, back pain, lumbar surgery, post-craniotomy, lumbar drains, altered mental status, aphasia (uses Glucommander, cardiac titratable drips)
• 5 West (Cardiac Stepdown – 34 beds): Chest pain, post-cardiac angiography with or without PTCA, CHF, cardiomyopathy, pneumonia, palpitations, syncope, arrhythmias, angioedema, hyponatremia, altered mental status, sepsis, acute coronary syndrome, atrial fibrillation, heart block (uses Glucommander, cardiac titratable drips, and aquapheresis)
• Observation Unit (Decision Unit & overflow for 5 West – 11 beds): Facial numbness, CAD, atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response, stroke‑like symptoms, chest pain, right or left-sided weakness, acute respiratory failure (uses cardiac titratable drips, bedside cardiac monitors in all rooms)
• ICU (Medical, Surgical, Neuro, Cardiac – combined 26 beds): Drug overdose, psychosis, myocardial infarction, subarachnoid hemorrhage, MVC, sepsis, acute renal failure, abdominal aortic aneurysm, acute hypoxic respiratory failure, hypoglycemia, pneumonia, suicide attempts (patients on Life Link, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), intra‑aortic balloon pump). Travelers are not assigned CRRT and IABPs.

Licenses and Certifications Required

• ED RN: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and CPI (CPI training provided if not currently certified)
• ICU RN: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, CPI (CPI training provided if not currently certified); TNCC preferred
• PCU and Med/Tele RN: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, CPI (CPI training provided if not currently certified)

Required Skills

• ED RN: Emergency room skills including arrhythmia monitoring, sedation, paralytics, titratable drips knowledge, central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring, care for post-craniotomy patients, TPA administration; TNCC certification mandatory; CEN preferred
• ICU RN: ICU skills including arrhythmia monitoring, sedation, paralytics, titratable drips knowledge, CVP monitoring, care for post-craniotomy patients, TPA administration; CCRN and TNCC preferred
• PCU RN: PCU skills including arrhythmia monitoring and knowledge of cardiac titratable drips
• Med/Tele RN: Basic arrhythmia interpretation, Foley catheter irrigation, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), epidural, continuous passive motion (CPM), Buck’s traction, drains and chest tube management
• General nursing skills with knowledge of cardiac drips, neurological, cardiac, pulmonary, orthopedic, trauma, and surgical patient care
• Note: Two nurses are required to place Foley catheters

Staffing Ratios

• MedSurg: Day shift 1:5 (may increase to 1:6 during staffing shortages), night shift 1:6
• ICU: Days and nights 1:2 (may increase to 1:3 depending on acuity)
• High Acuity Unit (PCU level): 1:3

Floating Policy

• Floating occurs across all medical‑surgical and critical care areas, including ED boarders. ICU and ER staff also float within those units.

Orientation Process

• First week: New Employee Orientation (Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm)
• Second week: 2‑3 days of departmental orientation on the floor

Scheduling Details

• Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
• On‑call: Rarely required, only if census is low
• Holiday coverage: Expected to work 70% of holidays
• Return to Office (RTO) requests: Up to 7 days approved if participating in clinical interviewing and contract extension accordingly
• Shift times: 7:00 am – 7:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 7:00 am for med surg and critical care; ER shift times may vary
• Schedule cycle length: 13 weeks
