Job summary

SoftPath Medical is seeking an ICU RN traveler for a facility in Albemarle, NC. You will provide critical care nursing across ICU/PCU, manage arterial lines and ventilators, and perform complex drips and bedside procedures with 24/7 support.

Requirements include 18–24 months ICU RN experience, BLS/ACLS/NIHSS, and strong cardiac rhythm skills. Floating regionally, day/evening shifts, and opportunity for first-time travelers are offered.

Unit Information

Beds: 10 ICU beds and 4 PCU beds (PCU used only during surge capacity)

Average Census: 7.3 patients per day

Minimum Experience Required: 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience

First-Time Travelers: Accepted

Patient Types and Common Diagnoses

• Sepsis


• COPD


• CHF


• Chest Pain


• MI, NSTEMI


• Stroke, TIA


• New onset cardiac arrhythmia


• Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and DKA


• Minor trauma


• Alcohol withdrawal


• ARDS


• Respiratory illnesses including Flu and COVID-19

Patient Ratios

RN: 1:2-3 depending on acuity; often assigned 3 patients

Could include a mix of ICU and Med/Tele patients

CNA: Not available overnight; 1:10 ratio during dayshift only

• Intensivist physician rounds Monday through Friday around 6am (night RN provides report)


• For urgent situations, Virtual Critical Care (VCC) is contacted overnight


• Bedside and central telemetry monitoring performed by RNs on the unit

Floating Information

Floating is required within the region and scope of practice. Locations include:

• Med/Tele units (1:4 ratio)


• ICU


• PCU (if open)


• ED holds (may be task RN or ICU/Med-Tele holds)


• Behavioral Health unit (medication pass and charting only)

Regional Floating: Required to float to facilities within the region as needed, including multiple hospitals in the area.

If floating mid-shift, travel time between facilities will be paid and remain on the clock.

Candidates not agreeable to floating should decline.

Orientation

• New Employee Orientation (NEO)


• 2-3 days of departmental orientation

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation: at minimum every other weekend


• No on-call responsibilities for travelers


• Holiday work expectation: 75% of holidays


• Return to Office (RTO) requires manager approval


• Shift start time: must clock in between 18:38 and 18:45


• Schedule cycles every 6 weeks
