Job summary

SoftPath Medical is seeking a highly skilled RN for the Pediatric CVICU at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. The unit cares for infants to adolescents with very high acuity post-operative congenital heart conditions, including ECMO and transplant patients.

Candidates must have 2+ years in CVICU/PICU, BLS, PALS, NIHSS, EPIC EMR experience, and be comfortable floating to the PICU as needed. Weekend rotations and on-call requirements apply.

Qualifications

• RN with pediatric cardiac ICU experience in a high-acuity setting.
• Experience with devices such as Aquadex, Impella, ECMO.
• EPIC EMR experience.
• Ability to float to PICU as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide care for post-op congenital heart patients and transplant care.
• Monitor ECMO/Impella/Aquadex devices and renal replacement therapy.
• Operate in EPIC EMR and coordinate with ICU teams.
• Float to PICU, NICU as needed.

Radius Rule

Traveler’s permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit.

Unit Information

• Beds: 20
• The unit is divided into two mirrored sides with 10 beds each. The nurses’ station is centralized, with the most critical patients located behind it.
• Required Experience: 2 years Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a similar high-acuity facility.
• First-time travelers are accepted.

Patient Types / Common Diagnoses

• Very high acuity patient population, ages 0-18 years old.
• Patients with congenital heart differences who have undergone surgery, medical management of pre-transplant and post-transplant, post-cath lab, ventricular assistive devices, ECMO, Impella, Dialysis, Aquadex (Renal Replacement Therapy).

Patient Ratios

• RN: Varies based on acuity – 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2
• CNA: None; 1 Nursing Assistant per day supports unit secretary duties and nursing needs throughout the shift.

Required Licensure & Certifications

• BLS
• PALS
• NIHSS

Skills Required

• Experience with fresh open heart post-op patients and transplant care.
• Experience with devices such as Aquadex (renal replacement therapy), Impella, ECMO.
• EPIC electronic medical record experience.
• Ability and competency to float to PICU (discussed during interview).

Support within the Department

• 1 Health Care Technician per day to assist with unit secretary duties and nursing support (runners, bathing, etc.)
• Unit Secretary available every shift
• Charge nurse – free floating
• Phlebotomy available in-house but rarely used due to majority of patients having central lines
• IV/VAT Team available
• Resource Nurse – free floating
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
• Cardiologist available 24/7
• Intensivist available 24/7
• No telemetry monitoring technician; centralized and bedside monitoring in place

Floating

Yes – may float to PICU, NICU, and General Pediatrics as needed.

Orientation

• Neonatal Orientation (NEO)
• 2 days departmental orientation

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation: every other weekend or fewer as needed (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Call requirement: Yes, based on previous date
• Holiday expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays; unit requires every other holiday
• Return to Office (RTO): Manager approval required
• Shift times: 06:45 – 18:45 and 18:45 – 06:45
• Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
