Description:This position is in an Emergency Room setting.It is a Level 4 Trauma and Stroke Ready facility.The unit consists of 11 beds total, with 7 designated for the Emergency Room and 2 trauma bays.There is a Fast Track urgent care component, but travelers rarely cover this area.Travelers are allowed to perform triage in a separate triage area.Patients in the Emergency Room usually range from 25 to 40 per day.The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4.Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC.Common patient diagnoses include stroke, chest pain, abdominal pain, flu, motor vehicle accidents, and pediatric to geriatric cases.There is no charge nurse on duty 24/7, and staffing includes 2 RNs in the Emergency Room with a third triage nurse when urgent care is open.There is no in-house respiratory therapy; ER staff manage respiratory equipment and treatments prior to consulting respiratory therapy.Nurses are expected to manage ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen.There are no monitor technicians in the Emergency Room, so nurses must read their own strips.X-ray services are available 24/7 within close proximity.Phlebotomy performs lab draws unless IV access is absent, in which case the RN will draw from IVs.Night holiday shifts are rotated among permanent staff.There are weekend requirements every third weekend.Self-scheduling is not allowed, and block scheduling is not accommodated.Scrub colors are grey.
