Job Summary
The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment that is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders, supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The practice framework is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values. All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards set forth by the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, individuals must uphold the voice of the patient, adhere to system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions
Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and individualized care. Coordinate care through effective partnerships, recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient outcomes.
- Provide relationship-based, patient-centered care that considers population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and reflects an understanding of cultural diversity.
- Partner with patients and significant others (as appropriate) using methods such as bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and patient education, focusing on patient goals in the care plan.
- Practice according to current clinical standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Coordinate the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting professional care delivery models. Use diverse communication methods, complete timely documentation, and foster a respectful, inclusive environment.
- Demonstrate teamwork by practicing responsibly, supporting recruitment and retention, and participating in performance improvement activities, research, and shared governance.
Professional Development and Initiative
- Complete all required professional competency assessments and mandatory education.
- Serve as a preceptor or mentor to ensure a qualified workforce, modeling professional nursing practice, and creating a healthy work environment.
Evidence-Based Practice and Research
- Promote evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement activities, including value analysis.
- Uphold all healthcare policies, procedures, and standards, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
- Participate in data collection, clinical questioning, and resource consultation to address practice questions.
Resources and Support
- Plan proactively for patient care across the continuum.
- Develop protocols and procedures in collaboration with the care team to improve outcomes.
- Support efficient use of resources and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Licensing
- Associate's Degree in Nursing or graduation from an approved nursing program (required).
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (preferred).
- Current RN license (single state or multi-state compact).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (instructor preferred).
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience (preferred).
