Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders, supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The practice framework is guided by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values. All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards established by the American Nurses Association. As part of the patient services team, individuals are expected to uphold the voice of the patient, adhere to system policies and procedures, and support service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  1. Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
    • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and individualized care, coordinating care through effective partnerships.
    • Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care that considers population-specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and reflects cultural diversity.
    • Partners with patients and significant others through appropriate methods (e.g., bedside reports, interdisciplinary rounds, patient teaching), keeping patient goals central to the care plan.
    • Practices according to current clinical standards.
  2. Teamwork and Collaboration
    • Coordinates safe, quality patient care and documentation, promoting respectful, inclusive interdisciplinary communication.
    • Demonstrates teamwork by practicing responsibly and promoting staff recruitment and retention.
    • Supports performance improvement, research, and shared governance initiatives to promote safe, quality care.
  3. Professional Development and Initiative
    • Completes professional competency assessments and mandatory education.
    • Serves as preceptor/mentor to ensure workforce development, modeling professional nursing practice.
  4. Evidence-Based Practice and Research
    • Promotes evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement activities.
    • Participates in data collection, formulates clinical questions, and uses evidence to guide practice.
  5. Resources and Support
    • Plans for patient care across the continuum and develops protocols to improve outcomes.
    • Supports efficient resource utilization and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Certifications

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Licenses and certifications: RN license (single state or multi-state compact), BLS certification (Instructor preferred).

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in direct patient care preferred.
