Grants Pass School District No. 7 is seeking a Special Education Educational Assistant for Riverside Elementary's site-based PALS program, 7 hours per day, 182 days per year.

Knowledge of autism preferred; bilingual Spanish a plus. The role involves applying ABA-informed strategies, supporting students with significant challenges, and collaborating with teachers to design engaging learning experiences.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Also, one of the following three options: Two years of college study; An associate's (or higher) degree; A passing score on the District's reading, writing and math assessment.
  • Preferred: supplemented by college level work or special vocational training in Special Education principles and practices, behavior management, and/or procedures related to basic physical/medical needs and personal hygiene.
  • Two years of responsible instructional assistance experience, preferably involving contact with students who have some form of learning or physical disability or special cultural, social/behavioral needs.
  • Assists in the planning and implementing of specialized learning experiences of students enrolled in the program: confers with teacher.
  • Duties may involve clerical work and other duties as assigned.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish preferred.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow employees and ability to get along well with students.
  • Upon selection, employees will be required to pay fingerprinting fees.

Location: Riverside Elementary

Position: Special Education Educational Assistant- Site Based- PALS (2 positions available)

Hours: 7 hours per day

Calendar: 182 days per year (August-June)

DESCRIPTION: The PALS classroom is a site-based program for elementary-aged students with significant challenges due to Autism Spectrum Disorder. This classroom is an ORPATS (Oregon Regional Program Autism Training Site) site and staff receive extra training and support in the use of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies including Discrete Trial Training (DTT), Pivotal Response Training (PRT), and Functional Routines (FR). Our students require visual instruction methods including visual schedules, visual communication strategies (icon exchange), and structured environments.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Also, one of the following three options:
    • Two years of college study
    • An associate's (or higher) degree
    • A passing score on the District's reading, writing and math assessment.
  • Preferred: supplemented by college level work or special vocational training in Special Education principles and practices, behavior management, and/or procedures related to basic physical/medical needs and personal hygiene.   • Duties may involve working with students who need feeding, support with toileting challenges, as well as social/communication/sensory differences that may lead to challenging behaviors (restraining, at times, due to aggressive behavior).
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow employees and ability to get along well with students.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish preferred.
  • Upon selection, employees will be required to pay for the following: $12.50 fingerprinting fee and $75 ODE fingerprinting processing fee.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • $20.02-$28.91 per hour. Dependent on approved accepted experience/education.
  • Annual COLA pay increase (as negotiated with Oregon Association of Classified Employees).
  • Annual step pay increase awarded to eligible employees.
  • 6 paid holidays per year.
  • 2 personal days per year.
  • 10 paid sick leave days per year.
  • Bereavement leave, as per bargaining agreement.
  • Continuing Education Funds, up to $1,200 per year.
  • Up to $1,624 per month district-paid contribution toward full-family medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • $4,534 per year insurance opt-out stipend for employees who demonstrate other health insurance coverage under a qualifying employer sponsored group medical plan (more than 6-hour employees), $4080.60 (4-6-hour employees).
  • 6% employee paid contribution towards Oregon Public Employees Retirement System
  • Longevity Service Stipend after 10 years of employment ($1,000-$1,600).
