Job Description
This is a regular position, budgeted for 6.5 hours per day, with a start date of August 26, 2026.
Job Purpose Statement: The Instructional Assistant I supports student learning and growth under the supervision of a licensed staff member or school administrator. The incumbent provides instructional support in the learning center, assists in student supervision, performs general clerical duties, and offers individual and small group support to students with various disabilities.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist licensed staff in social and educational development of students.
- Implement district adopted curriculum and intervention programs with licensed staff guidance, including preparing materials, teaching, monitoring progress, and providing small group instruction.
- Collect data as prescribed by the licensed staff.
- Understand and maintain district guidelines regarding safety and confidentiality.
- Provide a safe and secure environment for students, including playground supervision, cafeteria duty, and small group management before and after school.
- Administer minor first aid.
- Provide clerical support and simple maintenance of school equipment and supplies.
- Prepare instructional materials related to the area of assignment.
- Provide personal care and assistance to students (toileting, hygiene, feeding, positioning, mobility, and delegated nursing and/or therapy services).
- Encourage acceptable student behavior and contribute to maintaining classroom discipline.
- Participate in professional development activities related to assignment.
- Maintain confidentiality, non-preferential, non-judgmental attitude toward students, staff, and department/school.
- Assist students with questions, examples, and general guidance.
- Maintain student records and files as directed.
- Prepare reports as requested.
- Assist licensed staff with general phone calls to parents.
- Maintain regular attendance to meet student needs and district expectations.
- Employ good judgment in emergencies.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, staff, and the public.
- Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and meet deadlines.
- Consult with licensed staff regarding programs and materials to meet student needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience
Prior job-related experience supporting elementary school-age children or adolescents preferred.
Minimum Education
Equiv. of 72 quarter‑credits of college coursework (Associate’s Degree), or a passing CBEST score, ETS Paraprofessional Assessment, or other district‑approved paraprofessional assessment. Official transcripts or test results required upon hire.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Skills: Instructional activities, communication with parents/students/staff, basic arithmetic, use of office equipment, correct English, grammar, punctuation, and basic clerical functions.
- Knowledge: Principles of child development and instructional processes.
- Abilities: Work as part of an instructional team, flexible with diverse students/tasks, sit/stand for prolonged periods, understand oral/written instructions, maintain confidentiality, meet schedules, interpret rules, rapidly learn methods/materials, lift up to 100 lbs occasionally and 50 lbs frequently, and provide hearing/visual acuity.

Compensation
Hourly pay range: $19.22 – $22.50. Bilingual English/Spanish exam pass includes a 5% per hour increase (if applicable).
