Under broad supervision, conducts risk control assessment, evaluation, consulting, and technical support for prospective, new, and renewal business.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Performs workplace/work site risk evaluation and consultative risk improvement services, and makes risk recommendations for the underwriting function, including solutions to minimize risk.
  2. Works with senior risk control staff to assess account and/or book of business needs and implements customized strategies.
  3. Partners with underwriting and other areas to provide information for risk evaluation and assessment, including reviewing accounts for operational issues, claims, profitability, and agency management.
  4. Analyzes losses on individual accounts or specific books of business to identify root causes, trends, and emerging issues.
  5. Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external business partners.
  6. Conducts education, training programs, and presentations.
  7. Visits agencies/brokers to build relationships, discuss account issues, and market company products and services.
  8. Identifies opportunities for new products and services.
  9. Provides expertise in one or more specialty areas.
  10. May be responsible for special projects and presentations.
  11. May perform additional duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationship

Typically Manager or above

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  1. Solid technical and product-specific expertise, risk control evaluation skills, and knowledge of insurance and risk control principles, practices, and procedures.
  2. Strong interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external partners.
  3. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  4. Ability to handle ambiguous situations and issues.
  5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to work independently.
  7. Ability to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions.
  8. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other business-related software.
  9. Willingness to travel extensively.
Education & Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; professional designations preferred.
  2. Typically 3-5 years of risk control experience with a proven track record of results.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In districts such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, and Washington, the base pay range is $54,000 to $103,000 annually.
