Job summary

IDEA Public Schools seeks a Special Education Co-Teacher to support students with cognitive and developmental disabilities within K-12 settings. The role emphasizes a functional curriculum focused on daily living and vocational skills to promote independence in the community.

Compensation is hourly, ranging from $16.61 to $23.98, paid over 12 months. The school provides a comprehensive benefits plan including family leave, tuition reimbursement, mental health support, and other employee perks.

Qualifications

• Education: At least 48 college hours required, bachelor’s degree preferred
• Experience: Working with children with cognitive and/or developmental disabilities strongly preferred
• Licenses/Certifications: Willingness to pursue Special Education teaching certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction of teachers
• Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor progress
• Support individual students inside and outside the classroom to fully participate in activities
• Collaborate with professionals such as speech therapists, social workers, and other therapists
• Maintain student records and assist with documentation
• Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and help them develop social skills
• Assist with daily living activities as needed in Life Skills units
• On some campuses, accompany students on bus rides before or after school
