Job summary

MEI Industrial Solutions is seeking a skilled Rigger to set up, assemble, and disassemble job-specific rigging for relocation and transportation of machinery and equipment in Salt Lake City. The candidate should have HS diploma or equivalent, strong rigging knowledge, and the ability to read blueprints and follow safety protocols.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Able to take direction and closely follow instruction.
• Visualize or predict the outcome of the job by using deductive and inductive reasoning.
• Ability to use measuring tools (tape measure, levels, calipers) and hand/power tools.
• Correctly estimate weight-bearing ability of tools and equipment.
• Read blueprints, schematics, or technical manuals as required.
• Familiar with hand/flag signals including their meaning.
• Willing to learn and follow safety requirements, including PPE.

Responsibilities

• Visually inspect and test rigging materials to ensure safety and reliability.
• Align, level, and anchor machinery or equipment.
• Use hand and/or power tools to attach loads to rigging and prepare for moving.
• Select appropriate gear such as cables, pulleys, vices, winches, etc.
• Be aware of obstacles, surrounding structures, barriers or objects and the location of other people.
• Signal or verbally communicate with workers engaged in hoisting, suspending, and moving loads for safety.
• Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support loads.
• Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces.
• Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver around obstacles using multi-point suspension.
• Install ground rigging for yarding lines with chokers/logs and other tools.
• Assist in fabrication, setup, and repair of rigging and hoists using tools.
• Attach pulleys/blocks to fixed overhead structures using bolts/clamps.
• Dismantle, inspect, clean, organize and store rigging equipment after use.
• Run, operate, maneuver, navigate, or drive vehicles or mechanized equipment.
