Job description

Position Purpose

Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp (FLBC) has an active retreat ministry, hosting churches, families, schools, organizations, and other groups throughout much of the year. Retreat groups may range in size from 10 to 200+ guests, with many arriving Friday and departing Sunday morning.

The Retreat Support position helps create a welcoming, clean, safe, and hospitable environment for retreat guests. The primary responsibilities include cleaning and resetting cabins and retreat spaces, laundering linens, restocking supplies, and communicating regularly with the Retreat Director regarding the needs of each retreat.

This position is an important part of FLBC's ministry of Christian hospitality, helping guests experience Christ's grace through meaningful relationships, shared adventures, and purposeful service.

This position reports to the Retreat Director.

Essential Job Functions
Cabin and Facility Cleaning
  • Clean and reset cabins following the departure of retreat groups.
  • Clean bathrooms, meeting rooms, common spaces, and other areas used by retreat guests.
  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, sanitize, and perform other routine cleaning duties as needed.
  • Remove trash and recycling and properly dispose of waste.
  • Check cabins and retreat spaces for damage, maintenance concerns, or missing items and report concerns to the appropriate staff member.
  • Ensure spaces are clean, orderly, safe, and ready for the next group.
Laundry and Linens
  • Collect, wash, dry, fold, and properly store sheets, blankets, quilts, towels, and other linens.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of clean linens for retreat use.
  • Identify damaged or worn linens and communicate replacement needs to the Retreat Director.
  • Keep laundry areas clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
Retreat Space Readiness
  • Help ensure cabins, bathrooms, meeting rooms, and common areas are prepared prior to guest arrival.
  • Assist with the setup and resetting of retreat spaces as directed by the Retreat Director.
  • Ensure appropriate supplies are available and spaces are organized and welcoming.
  • Assist with beverages, basic supplies, signage, and other setup needs when requested.
  • Help ensure fire and safety equipment is accessible and that spaces are prepared according to FLBC safety procedures.
Communication and Teamwork
  • Communicate regularly with the Retreat Director regarding cleaning schedules, priorities, supplies, and facility needs.
  • Work cooperatively with retreat staff, maintenance staff, kitchen staff, volunteers, and other FLBC personnel.
  • Ask questions when expectations or priorities are unclear.
  • Maintain reliable communication regarding scheduled work and availability.

  • Report unsafe conditions, injuries, property damage, or other concerns immediately.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with retreat guests, particularly children and youth.
  • Follow FLBC's policies regarding child protection, harassment, alcohol, and other areas of guest and staff safety.
Necessary Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • An eye for cleanliness, organization, and detail.

Work Schedule

This is a sporadic/hourly position, with work scheduled according to the retreat calendar and the needs of FLBC.

As most retreats run Friday-Sunday, the majority of this work (during non-summer months) occurs between Sunday afternoon when a group departs and Friday afternoon when the next group arrives. While occasional weekend work might be requested, the primary function of this position is to help reset camp following a retreat to prepare for the next group’s arrival.
