Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington is seeking a friendly, team‑oriented Retail Sales Associate to greet customers, ring up purchases, and keep the store clean and organized. You will help shoppers find merchandise, answer questions, and provide exceptional service in a fast-paced environment.

This role offers growth opportunities, paid time off, benefits including same-day pay, and a 401(k) plan with match after one year. Previous retail experience is beneficial, and multilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate with customers and GGW associates
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all customers
• Ability to settle customer complaints
• Ability to perform basic math skills
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time (up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift)
• Ability to bend and lift up to 40 pounds frequently
• Basic working knowledge of computer applications and the internet

Responsibilities

• Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone
• Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner
• Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register
• Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly
• Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections
• Maintains clean professional appearance
• Maintain an orderly and clean register area
• Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary
• Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms)
• Perform other duties as assigned by management
