Overview

Retail General Manager at Office Depot and OfficeMax. Role involves leading store sales, services, and operations to deliver an exceptional customer experience and achieve financial goals. The General Manager owns sales performance, develops store strategies, drives traffic, and maintains a customer-first culture while engaging with the local community.

Responsibilities

Owns and coaches associates to deliver customer-focused service; leads training and development, talent assessment, and succession planning. Manages hiring, merchandising, operations, and adherence to store and company standards. Responsible for performance management, creating an inclusive workplace, and driving change initiatives. Leads store initiatives to maximize sales and profitability, manage staffing using labor planning, and ensure effective scheduling. Oversees inventory, assets, expenses, and adherence to financial controls; maintains store appearance and merchandise presentation; leads regular store meetings and communicates company directives and policies.

Delivers an exceptional customer experience by observing, listening, engaging with customers, and ensuring satisfactory issue resolution. Ensures information, training, tools, and systems are effectively applied to meet customer needs.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Related fields such as Business, Marketing, Retail Management preferred. Minimum two to four years of management experience or demonstrated learning through an internal development program. Strong business acumen; ability to lead, coach, and manage others; effective verbal and written communication; ability to plan, prioritize, and execute detailed instructions. Demonstrated leadership, independent work capability, sound judgment, and people management abilities. Adaptability to changing environments and ability to meet goals under stress and ambiguity. Proficiency with computers and POS systems.
