Job summary

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is hiring a Retail Clerk for our Gift Shop and Brewery in Chico, CA. You will greet guests, answer questions about Sierra Nevada and craft beer, and process transactions accurately at the POS. Maintain a clean, welcoming retail space and stock areas, while supporting tastings and tours.

The role emphasizes exceptional customer service, product knowledge, and a brand ambassador approach in a culture committed to Earth and people. 21+ required, pre-employment checks apply.

Qualifications

• Retail and/or customer service experience preferred.
• Cash handling experience preferred.
• Experience working a computerized cash register or POS system preferred.
• Beer pouring experience preferred.
• CA Food Handler's Card preferred (CA only; within 30 days).
• CA Responsible Beverage Server Training preferred (CA only; within 90 days).
• Ability to be welcoming, enthusiastic and energetic in talking about our fun, growing industry.

Responsibilities

• Create a friendly, welcoming environment by greeting and engaging every guest upon entry.
• Maintain clean, organized Gift Shop and stock areas, including spills per safety procedures.
• Operate the POS system to ensure accurate transactions, including cash handling and exchanges.
• Provide knowledgeable assistance by answering guest questions about Sierra Nevada, beer styles, and the craft beer industry.
• Stock and maintain beverage coolers, rotate products using FIFO standards, maintain beer presentation.
• Maintain knowledge of Sierra Nevada merchandise, food offerings, beverages and ingredients.
• Stock and merchandise products on the sales floor.
• Participate in team meetings and trainings.
• Receive beer and merchandise orders and report discrepancies.
• Greet and interact with customers, resolve issues with empathy and problem solving.
• Follow responsible beverage service policies and laws.
• Answer Gift Shop phone lines professionally.
• Pour beer to support tastings and retail sales opportunities.
• Support brewery tours and guest experience initiatives.

The Retail Clerk creates an engaging and welcoming experience for guests visiting the Sierra Nevada Gift Shop and Brewery. Serving as a brand ambassador, this role builds genuine connections with guests through exceptional customer service, product knowledge, and hospitality. The Retail Clerk greets and assists guests, initiates meaningful conversations, answers questions about Sierra Nevada and craft beer, processes retail transactions accurately, and supports a clean, organized, and inviting retail environment that reflects Sierra Nevada's relationship-driven culture.

What You Will Do

• Create a friendly, welcoming environment by greeting and engaging every guest upon entry.
• Maintain clean, organized Gift Shop and stock areas, including responding to spills or breakage according to safety procedures.
• Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system to ensure accurate, efficient transactions, including cash handling, returns, and exchanges.
• Provide knowledgeable assistance by answering guest questions about Sierra Nevada, beer styles, and the craft beer industry.
• Stock and maintain beverage coolers, rotating products using FIFO standards and maintaining beer presentation standards.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of Sierra Nevada retail merchandise, food offerings, beverages, and ingredients. Including merchandise brands and availability.
• Stock and merchandise products on the sales floor, ensuring proper placement and consistent inventory availability.
• Participate in required team meetings, training sessions, and collaborative projects.
• Accurately receive beer and merchandise orders and report discrepancies.
• Greet and interact with both internal and external customers, handling inquiries and directing them according to specific needs; when possible, resolving customer issues through empathy, active listening and creative problem solving.
• Follow responsible beverage service policies and all applicable alcohol laws.
• Answer Gift Shop phone lines using professional phone etiquette and route inquiries appropriately.
• Pour beer as needed to support tastings and retail sales opportunities.
• Provide flexible support for brewery tours, First Impression Team coverage, and overall guest experience initiatives.
• Maintain an active presence on the sales floor, continuously engaging in tasks such as assisting guests, stocking, organizing, and operational tasks to support store efficiency.

• Desire and ability to learn and understand the different styles of craft beverages and the beer making process
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office desired
