Job summary

Family Dollar seeks an Assistant Store Manager to support store operations, customer service and team development in Dale City, VA.

You will assist with opening/closing, merchandise handling, loss prevention, and coaching storefront associates while ensuring safety and a positive, friendly environment.

This role emphasizes teamwork, strong communication, and hands-on leadership to maintain a neat, welcoming store and meet corporate directives.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain directives is required.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred.
• Lift up to 55 lbs and perform frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills are required.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment is required.
• Exceptional customer service, organizational, and communication skills are required.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom to sales floor and maintain seasonal areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process corporate directives and store communications.
• Maintain promotional fixtures and displays for effectiveness.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, record keeping, and loss prevention.
• Keep store areas well-stocked and organized on floor and in stockroom.
• Protect and secure store assets, including cash.
• Adhere to safety policies and procedures and ensure staff follow them.
• Assist Store Manager in supervising, training, and developing Store Associates.
• Maintain a positive, safe, and respectful environment with customers and staff.
• Keep store clean, restrooms stocked, floors swept/mopped, trash removed.
• Other duties as assigned.
