Job summary

Hocking College is seeking a server for dining services to provide attentive guest service in a casual fine dining atmosphere. You will manage table settings, menu knowledge, wine service, and guest interactions while maintaining high standards of hospitality.

The role requires 21+ years old, 3–5 years in similar settings, and flexibility to work nights and weekends. Training and opportunities to participate in events are available within the college dining operation.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in casual fine dining.
  • Basic knowledge of wines and wine service.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends.
  • Food safety knowledge or certification.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tables, lay out napkins and utensils, refill condiments and perform preparation tasks.
  • Stay updated on menu choices, specialties and deviations, and monitor item availability.
  • Handle table bookings, greet guests, present menus, suggest dishes and assist with drink selection; communicate needs to cooks.
  • Maintain dining experience: deliver items, fulfill guest needs, offer desserts and drinks, clear courses, replenish utensils and glasses.
  • Prepare mixed drinks for service at the tableside and properly open/pour wine.
  • Obtain revenues, issue receipts, accept payments, and return change.
  • Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor.
  • Fill in for absent staff as needed and assist with special events.
  • Greet all guests warmly and adhere to grooming/appearance standards.
  • Adhere to ADA accommodations as required.

Job description

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director/Master Chef Culinary Operations and Promotions, will perform the following job responsibilities:

II.Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare the tables, laying out napkins and utensils, making sure the condiments are refilled, performing all other preparation tasks.
  • Staying updated on current menu choices, specialties and menu deviations, knowing if the kitchen staff is running out of any items…etc.
  • Handle the table bookings, direct customers to their tables, presenting menus, suggesting dishes, assisting in drink selection, informing customers about food preparation details, communicating specific customer needs to the cooks.
  • Maintaining proper dining experience, delivering items, fulfilling customer needs, offering desserts and drinks, removing courses, replenishing utensils, refilling glasses.
  • Prepare mixed drinks for service to your customers table.
  • Properly open and pour wine at the tableside.
  • Obtaining revenues, issuing receipts, accepting payments, returning the change.
  • Performing basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor.
  • Filling in for absent staff as needed.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Greet all guests and owners warmly with an appropriate greeting.
  • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently.
III.Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience with casual fine dining atmosphere.
  • Basic knowledge of wines and wine services.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be flexible to work a variety of shifts.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety, Food Safety Certification or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skills.
IV.Other Qualifications
  • Current Hocking College student willing to be trained
  • Ability to work nights and weekends including, but not limited to Thursdays, 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm; Fridays/Saturdays 4:30 pm to 11:00 pm and Sundays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Servers also must be available to work College breaks.
