Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state where practiced.
• Ventilator Unit experience required; long-term care or skilled nursing preferred.
• Possess effective communication skills to maintain relationships with residents, families, staff, physicians, consultants, providers, and governmental agencies, their representatives, and the community.
• Current knowledge of local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Promotes healing of acutely ill residents by providing respiratory care and education.
• Administers respiratory care including therapy, ventilation, airway management, and monitoring.
• Sets up and uses medical gases, humidification, medications, and ventilatory support as prescribed.
• Oversees rehab department management, case management, quality improvement, and care planning.
• Manages billing and records related to respiratory care and equipment.
• Collaborates with nursing leadership to integrate respiratory care into daily practice; trains staff.
• Assesses and plans respiratory therapy for residents; adjusts care plans as needed.
• Coordinates equipment orders and disposition with referral sources, physicians, residents, families.
• Communicates changes in residents' condition to team; adjusts treatment plans.
• Develops discharge plans for residents.
• Tracks preventive maintenance and follow-up visits for respiratory equipment.
• Addresses developmental needs across all ages and adapts care accordingly.
• Provides general medical equipment and supplies as ordered by a physician.
• Other duties may be assigned.
