Job summary

Atlantic Health System is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide respiratory therapy care and life support under physician supervision. You will evaluate patient condition, administer inhalation therapies, and operate ventilation and gas delivery equipment to maintain adequate oxygenation.

Additional responsibilities include monitoring patient responses, performing chest physiotherapy, aiding in pulmonary function testing, and educating patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and assesses patient condition to determine therapy needs.
• Renders aerosol medications and treatments to patients for inhalation and positions patients to aid breathing.
• Determines administration methods and precautions compatible with physician orders.
• Sets up and operates devices (ventilators, gas administration, humidification) to support respiration.
• Monitors treatment parameters and adjusts equipment to achieve target oxygen and gas delivery.
• Assesses patient responses via vital signs and blood gases during therapy.
• Performs chest physiotherapy to aid mucus clearance and assists breathing exercises.
• Supports diagnostic testing by performing pulmonary function tests as directed.
• Observes equipment function and makes adjustments for optimal therapy results.
• Consults with physician on adverse reactions and treatment responses.
• Maintains patient charts and ensures equipment safety; arranges repairs as needed.
• Provides patient education and support for chronic lung disease management.
• Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health staff.
• May care for premature infants, elderly patients, and trauma cases as needed.
• Performs related duties as assigned
