Job summary

Ascension Health in Milwaukee, WI, is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join the Respiratory Therapy department on the Day Shift. This full-time role offers the opportunity to evaluate patient needs, implement care plans, monitor patients, and support emergency responses.

You will educate patients and families, manage respiratory equipment, and maintain inventory while collaborating with a multidisciplinary medical team in a leading nonprofit health system.

Qualifications

  • BLS Provider required within 30 days of hire; American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner credentialed from the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board before hire date.
  • ALS and NRP preferred but not mandatory; AHA/ARC accepted.
  • PALS preferred; ACLS/NRP credentials advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and plan care based on diagnosis; implement and adjust respiratory treatments.
  • Monitor patients continuously and respond to emergencies as part of the medical team.
  • Educate patients and families on conditions, medications, and community resources.
  • Manage respiratory equipment calibration, sterilization, and inventory.

How you’ll make an impact in this role
  • Clinical Assessment & Planning: Evaluate patient needs based on diagnosis to develop, implement, and adjust comprehensive care plans and advanced respiratory modalities.
  • Patient Monitoring & Emergency Response: Continuously monitor and record patient conditions, communicate status updates to the medical team, and respond to emergency resuscitation calls.
  • Education & Support: Educate patients and their families on health conditions, medication administration, and the use of community support programs or available resources.
  • Equipment & Inventory Management: Oversee the calibration, sterilization, and maintenance of all respiratory equipment while managing departmental inventory and supply levels.
What minimum requirements you’ll need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner credentialed from the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Certification specializing in Neonatal Resuscitation credentialed from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) preferred.

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate’s degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
