Job summary

Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, Inc. is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to administer therapy, monitor patients on ventilation, and contribute to diagnostic and treatment planning within our Respiratory Care department in Philadelphia. The role requires NBRC credential, state licensure, and a 2-year associate degree.

BLS certification is required; ACLS/NALS preferred. You will work in a cardiovascular and pulmonary care setting with opportunities for continued professional

Qualifications

• NBRC credential required or equivalent.
• Graduate of AMA‑approved School of Respiratory Care.
• Licensed by the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
• Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
• Associate’s degree required; NBRC registration within 2 years of hire if not currently registered.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with coworkers, visitors, and staff per Jefferson values.
• Administers physician-prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, medications, PFTs, ABGs, and all mechanical ventilation.
• Performs invasive and non-invasive evaluation procedures to determine respiratory care needs and makes recommendations to improve patient outcomes.
• Monitors patients on mechanical ventilation with assessments, rounds, troubleshooting, weaning, airway care, and diagnostics.
• Collects and analyzes sputum, blood and breath specimens; measures lung capacity to assess impairments.
• Provides diagnostic results and treatment suggestions based on analyses.
• Communicates with health care team to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
• Ensures smooth operation of the PFT/ABG laboratory and performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
