Job summary

Methodist Hospital Northeast is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to assess, treat and care for patients with pulmonary disorders. You will manage therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care modalities and work with the care team to implement the plan of care.

The role requires Texas licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner and NBRC credentials (RRT or CRT grandfathered). BLS is required on hire and ACLS within 90 days; PALS/NRP may be required within 90 days depending on the

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
• 1-year Respiratory Therapy experience preferred.
• Texas license to practice Respiratory Care in Texas.
• NBRC credential: RRT or grandfathered CRT (before 2002).
• BLS and ACLS certifications required within stated timelines.
• PALS/NRP may be required within 90 days depending on department.

Responsibilities

• Operate and set up devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration, aerosol generators, and disposable respiratory care products per treatment parameters.
• Provide emergency care including artificial ventilation, external cardiac massage, and assist staff with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Collect and analyze arterial blood gases and interpret normal, abnormal and critical values to determine corrective intervention.
• Follow physician orders for treatment and evaluate requirements for treatment, including type, mode and duration, universal precautions, and medication dosage.
• Monitor patient’s response to therapy via vital signs, arterial blood gases, auscultation, pulse oximetry and end-tidal CO2.
• Consult with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to adjust the plan of care and manage patient status.
