Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina. The smallest of Duke Health's four hospitals at 123 beds, it offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including 24-hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, women's services, and surgical specialties.

Summary

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of practice. Work performed in accordance with physician orders, across neonatal, pediatric, and adult patient populations.

Work Performed
  • Administer oxygen and aerosolized medications via Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing (IPPB), Intermittent Aerosol Therapy (IAT), and Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI).
  • Administer incentive breathing devices and perform nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning.
  • Perform CPR, bag-mask ventilation, pulse oximetry monitoring, arterial blood gas punctures, bedside pulmonary mechanics, diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures, pulmonary function studies, EKGs, and cardiac monitoring.
  • Transport patients within the hospital, verify physician orders, and ensure the correct setup, safety, and functionality of all equipment and supplies.
  • Adhere to all infectious disease standards, recognize life-threatening situations and initiate appropriate responses.
  • Understand pharmacological indications, dosages, and responses to adverse drug reactions.
  • Make patient care assessments according to protocols, provide education to patients, families, and healthcare team members, monitor therapy responses, and document in patient records.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and perform routine cleaning and maintenance of respiratory equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must possess the knowledge to make appropriate clinical decisions, maintain annual skills and safety certifications, and meet North Carolina licensing requirements. Excellent customer service and communication skills are essential, with work involving contact with patients of all ages, their families, and healthcare staff. Physical requirements include lifting or pushing over 30 pounds, walking, climbing, and bending.
