Job summary

The University of Houston Libraries seeks a Resource Sharing Specialist to coordinate interlibrary loan and document delivery operations. You will process requests, assist UH patrons and partner libraries, and ensure accessibility compliance for content provided via Resource Sharing services.

You will apply diverse search techniques across databases, train student workers, and help maintain documentation. Strong customer service, communication, and a proactive approach to workflow improvements

Qualifications

Description

Coordinates the daily operations of a library function orprogram such as serial ordering, reference processing, specialcollections, electronic publications, information services, and soforth.

  • 1. Performs reference work using subject expertise or generalresource material.
  • 2. Trains and coordinates the work activities of libraryspecialists, library assistants, and/or student workers.
  • 3. Interprets and teaches use of basic indexes, directories,guides, files and catalogs.
  • 4. Receives and processes reserves and library loan requests.
  • 5. Compiles book lists and bibliographies; reviews books and othermaterial in areas of subject expertise.
  • 6. Participates in the preparation, maintenance and updating ofpolicies and procedures for functional area.
  • 7. May teach electronic research classes to new and experiencedlibrary users.
  • 8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

The Resource Sharing Specialist is responsible for processinginterlibrary loan and document delivery requests, providingskillful customer service to library patrons and external partnersand ensuring compliance with accessibility requirements for contentprovided via Resource Sharing services.

Duties
  • Accurately and efficiently process interlibrary loan and documentdelivery requests from UH patrons and external resource sharingpartners, primarily focused on borrowing workflows for ResourceSharing services.
  • Apply multiple search techniques across a variety of databases toresolve complex interlibrary loan requests.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Resource Sharingunit, providing excellent customer service to UH patrons andpartner libraries.
  • Work with colleagues to identify workflow improvements and assistwith creating and maintaining documentation related to ResourceSharing services.
  • Ensure that Resource Sharing services meet national and staterequirements for document accessibility. Work with colleagues totrain and assist student workers in accessibility remediationtasks.
  • Assist department team members and student workers with preparingmaterials for shipping, receiving borrowed and returned materials,and routing materials internally as appropriate on an as-neededbasis.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of internal policies and otherrelevant external interlibrary loan guidelines andagreements.
  • Troubleshoot minor Resource Sharing system errors andpatron-reported issues.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Directly relevant experience will be considered in lieu ofeducation.

MQ: Requires the ability and knowledge for analysis andinterpretation of procedures, policies and practices attainablethrough specific education and/or training programs in a specialtyor technical field. Advanced vocational or electronic skills or abasic knowledge of a professional field is required. An Associate'sdegree or certification/licensing in a technical specialty programof over 18 months and up to 3 years duration are characteristicofthis field. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directlyjob-related experience.
