Xcel Energy in Minneapolis, MN is seeking an intern to support the NSP Resource Planning team within Integrated System Planning. The role offers practical experience in financial and data analytics, modeling inputs, and collaboration with stakeholders while applying classroom knowledge to real-world projects.

The internship runs May 24, 2027 start date, with high potential for extension based on performance; hybrid work policy applies.

Qualifications

Current student enrolled in college/university pursuing a degree in finance, economics, operations research, mathematics, business, data analytics or engineering.
Able to work full-time during summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week) and commute to the designated work location.
Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Experience or proficiency with data analytics tools.

Responsibilities

Participate in weekly meetings to track resource planning workstreams.
Contribute to development and approval of the NSP resource expansion plan.
Work with internal stakeholders to gather input assumptions for modeling and prepare presentation materials for external stakeholder engagement.
Conduct research on cost assumptions for various generation types and emerging technologies.
Perform data analytical work to support strategic decisions on generation asset retirement, extension and expansion.
