Job summary

Citizens Options Unlimited in Plainview, NY, is seeking a Direct Support Staff member to provide ongoing support to individuals in the Residential Services program, promoting independence, self-care, health, safety, and overall wellbeing. You will work closely with people supported to encourage participation in daily activities and community engagement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must submit NYS driver's license, and maintain a qualified driver status throughout employment.
• Must have the ability to communicate and understand written and oral directives/information.

Responsibilities

• Provides ongoing guidance and support to individuals with intellectual and other disabilities to ensure active participation in daily life.
• Supports individuals to become active community members and maintain relationships.
• Ensures a safe and clean home by assisting with household chores and participating in them as needed.
• Follows treatment plans and uses adaptive and safety equipment to promote independence and wellbeing.
• Assists individuals with meal preparation, teaches diet adherence and cooking skills.
• Assists with medication administration according to AMAP policy and procedures.
• Documents treatment plans and progress in medical notes and logs.
