Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village is seeking a Residential Aide in Woodside, Queens. The role involves assisting with client intake, safety monitoring, policy enforcement, and supporting residents in accessing services.

You will maintain a secure and respectful living environment within a busy shelter setting. Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to stay calm in crisis.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Experience with homelessness or complex needs preferred.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to learn internal databases.
• Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
• Calm, professional demeanor in high-pressure situations.
• Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.
• CPR certification and/or Food Protection Certificate encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Welcome residents and orient to shelter policies and routines.
• Assist client check-ins, discharges, and documentation in DHS CARES.
• Monitor safety through rounds and informal engagement.
• Enforce rules while supporting residents respectfully.
• Respond to incidents and file timely reports.
• Refer residents to services and coordinate with case managers.
• Maintain room cleanliness and store belongings securely.
• Report maintenance needs to supervisors.
• Build rapport and provide guidance during interactions.
• Uphold confidentiality and DHS protocols.
