Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. in New York, NY is seeking a Residential Aide to support shelter operations and resident wellbeing. The role includes intake assistance, safety monitoring, policy enforcement, and confidential interactions with residents experiencing homelessness.

The position is full-time and non-exempt, based at the Woodside, Queens site with Sundays through Thursdays, 4pm–12am. Salary is $22.27 per hour, totaling around $40,548 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year experience with individuals facing homelessness or complex needs.
• Familiarity with shelter operations or supportive housing preferred.
• Basic computer literacy including MS Office and DHS CARES system.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations.
• Ability to stay calm in high-pressure or crisis situations.
• Commitment to trauma-informed care and confidentiality.
• Willingness to obtain CPR and Food Protection Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Welcome residents and provide orientation to shelter policies and routines.
• Assist with check-ins, discharges, and documentation in DHS CARES system.
• Monitor safety and behavior through rounds and engagement.
• Enforce facility rules while maintaining a respectful environment.
• Respond to incidents and file timely reports.
• Help residents access services by referrals and case manager coordination.
• Maintain cleanliness and security of resident areas and belongings.
