Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. in New York seeks a Residential Aide to support transitional housing programs across NYC. The role involves assisting with client intake, monitoring safety, enforcing policies, and maintaining a respectful living environment.

You will interact directly with residents facing complex challenges, requiring a calm, attentive demeanor and commitment to confidentiality and trauma-informed care. This is a full-time, non-exempt role with benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year experience with individuals facing homelessness or complex needs.
• Familiarity with shelter operations or supportive housing preferred.
• Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office and DHS CARES system.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to stay calm and professional in high-pressure or crisis situations.
• Willingness to obtain CPR certification and/or Food Protection Certificate during employment.

Responsibilities

• Welcome new residents and provide orientation to shelter policies and routines.
• Assist with client check-ins, discharges, and documentation in DHS CARES system.
• Monitor resident safety and behavior through rounds and engagement.
• Enforce facility rules while maintaining a respectful environment.
• Respond to incidents and complete accurate reports in a timely manner.
• Refer residents to services and coordinate with case managers.
• Maintain cleanliness and security of resident rooms and belongings.
• Communicate maintenance needs to supervisors and keep common areas orderly.
• Build rapport with residents and provide guidance during daily interactions.
• Uphold confidentiality and follow agency DHS protocols.
