State of Maryland - DAT Real Property Valuation is seeking a dedicated appraiser to assess residential real property at fair market value for real property tax calculations. The role includes inspecting properties, recording details, and updating department records using standard procedures.

The position involves interviewing property owners, explaining valuation methods to the public, and supporting appeal hearings at various levels to defend value estimates.

Qualifications

• Four years of appraisal experience involving the valuation of real property.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Learn to inspect residential real property and record technical details to update property records.
• Learn to prepare and conduct appeal hearings at the Supervisors, Appeals Board and Maryland Tax Court to defend the Department's value estimates.
• Learn to record data into the AAVS system to maintain property records.
• Interview property owners by telephone and in person to gather and verify assessment information.
• Learn to explain assessment valuation techniques and policies to the public.
• Learn to analyze market data and apply appraisal techniques to value land and buildings.
