Job summary

Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT) seeks a qualified Real Property Appraiser to value commercial and industrial properties for tax purposes in Washington County, Hagerstown.

This role includes on-the-job training in inspections, data entry in the AAVS system, market analysis, and preparation for appeals. A minimum seven years of appraisal experience or an equivalent combination of education and coursework is expected.

Qualifications

• Seven years of appraisal experience measuring real property value.
• Experience following USPAP and IAO courses or equivalents.
• Knowledge of real property tax assessment procedures and data systems.

Responsibilities

• Inspect commercial/industrial properties and record details for valuation records.
• Record and value new properties using AAVS and approved procedures.
• Analyze market, cost and income data to value land and improvements.
• Prepare for appeal hearings and defend valuation estimates as needed.
• Explain assessment information to the public in response to inquiries.
• Perform other duties to support office operations.
