Job summary

Better Community Living is seeking dedicated staff to support adults with developmental disabilities in New Bedford. The role emphasizes person-centered care, promoting independence, and documenting progress in ISP records.

Shifts are Tue–Sat 3:00 PM–10:00 PM, totaling 35 hours per week, with a weekend differential of $1.50/hour for Saturday and Sunday. Starting pay is $18.83 per hour; MAP-certified staff earn $20.33 per hour.

Qualifications

  • High School/GED or equivalent required.
  • Must be 18+ years old with a current US driver’s license.
  • Able to pass CORI check, drug test, and driving record check.
  • Within 30 days of employment, obtain First Aid, CPR, Human Rights, Safety Care, and MAP certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Attend to the daily needs of consumers and promote independence and self-determination.
  • Teach socialization, daily living activities, budgeting, transportation, and community resource use.
  • Record data, daily progress notes, and complete ISP documentation.
  • Supervise and document medication administration as prescribed and maintain program procedures.
  • Attend all required trainings and staff meetings.

It is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others while building a career rooted in service, compassion, and community.If you are passionate about helping others and want to be part of an organization that values your work and supports your growth, we encourage you to explore opportunities with BCL.Key ResponsibilitiesAttend to the daily needs of consumers on an individual basis as well as foster increased independence and self-determination.Teach socialization skills and activities of daily living including: household maintenance; self-care and hygiene; self-awareness and human development, menu planning, food shopping and preparation; money management skills/budgeting; transportation and community orientation; consumer skills; and utilization of community resources.Record and appropriately utilize necessary data, daily progress notes, staff log and complete all other ISP and program required documentation.Supervise and document self-administration of consumer medications as well as administer and document consumer medications as prescribed by a physician in accordance with agency and program procedures.Required to attend all staff training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled.Working ConditionsPhysical activities include but not limited to climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, etc.Exerting in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally.Subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.The worker is subject to hazards such as moving parts, moving vehicles, etc.Required QualificationsHigh School/GEDAll applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have had a current US drivers license for 3 years.Time management and writing skillsSuccessful applicants must be able to successfully pass a CORI check, Drug Test, and a Driving Record Check.All applicants must be able to become First Aid, CPR, Human Rights, Safety Care, and MAP certified within 30 days of employment.Preferred Qualifications6 months experience in human servicesSalary: $18.83 per hour or as outlined in Collective Bargaining Agreement without MAP certification, $20.33 with MAP certification.Benefits: BCL offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, tuition, and 401k and life insurance options for all eligible employees.Employment decisions will be based on the principles of equal opportunity.
