Job summary

Lifeworks is hiring a Teacher/Counselor (Residential Counselor) in Massachusetts to support adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in residential programs. You will provide direct care, education, counseling, and ISP planning in collaboration with staff.

Qualifications

• Experience working with Individuals with ID/DD.
• Bachelor's degree or an associate degree in a related field with two years of experience, or HS diploma and five years of related work experience in Human Services.
• Must pass Fingerprint background check, CORI, DPPC and driving background checks.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• MAP certification is preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Promotes optimal health for individuals through routine, preventive, and emergency health care.
• Assists with hands-on direct care which includes showering, toileting, shaving, brushing teeth, meal-time assistance.
• Ensures that residential environments are safe and secure and where individuals are free from harm.
• Provide education training, counseling, and physical assistance when necessary to achieve ISP goals in various areas.
• Develop, write and present annual ISPs and semi-annual assessments in consultation with other residential staff and directors.
• Provides transportation to individuals as necessary.
• Communicate with family, friends, guardians, funding sources, advocates, volunteers, and employers to facilitate consistency of programming and support.
• Performs case management duties including maintenance of confidential files and documentation.
