Job summary

Dallas County is seeking a Building Inspector Weatherization Assistant to perform inspections on residential structures to ensure compliance with applicable codes and zoning ordinances.

The role requires documenting findings, communicating with owners and contractors, issuing stop orders when needed, and ensuring final inspections meet all safety standards. A Texas driver’s license is required and travel to multiple site locations is expected.

Qualifications

• Education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree; one year of related work experience.
• Knowledge of standard software applications and ability to use them.
• Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License with good driving record.
• Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and random testing during employment.
• Ability to travel to various site locations and work in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Inspect units for compliance with code and zoning ordinances; assess air conditioning, heating, plumbing, insulation, ventilation, safety, structural or other components.
• Record and report discrepancies or code violations; notify owners, contractors and/or workers; issue stop orders for serious violations; conduct final inspections.
• Complete required paperwork and maintain records.
• Install devices and equipment and maintain inventory.
• Receive and investigate complaints regarding code violations and provide information or referrals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
