Job summary

Kinsley Power Systems in New York is seeking a shelter support worker to assist residents and help maintain a safe, orderly environment at the emergency shelter site.

You will collaborate with the Shift Supervisor, perform wellness checks, enforce shelter rules, complete intake tours, and document incidents, rounds, and daily operations. The role requires flexibility, English proficiency, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to speak, write and understand English.
• Food Handlers Certification required.
• NARCAN Certification required.
• CPR/First Aid Training required.
• F-02 preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• HHA/CAN or other medical training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct assistance, support, and care to shelter residents.
• Distribute meals and maintain cafeteria cleanliness following DOHMH protocols.
• Complete initial intakes and provide a tour.
• Conduct wellness checks and report any abnormalities with required documentation.
• Conduct hourly rounds and log outcomes.
• Inspect rooms for safety and hazards and complete work orders.
• Remove contraband and file incident reports as needed.
• Write occurrence and incident reports when deemed necessary.
• Enforce shelter rules and regulations.
• Sort and distribute client mail.
• Serve as liaison to facility atmosphere and report incidents promptly.
• Participate in monthly fire drills and report outcomes.
• Attend mandatory meetings and trainings as directed by supervisor.
• Manage CARES, the DHS database and comply with trainings.
• Able to lift about 50 pounds, bend, and climb stairs.
• Retrieve client belongings and distribute supplies; exchange linen.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Working in concert with the Shift Supervisor, provides general assistance and support to clients residing at the emergency shelter site and regularly monitors the safety and security of clients and staff.

POSITION DUTIES:

• Providing direct assistance, support, and care to clients residing in the shelter.
• Assist with the distribution of meals and maintaining the cafeteria clean and ensuring that all DOHMH protocols are followed.
• Complete initial intakes and provide a tour.
• Conduct wellness check to ensure that all clients are safe and report any abnormalities and make sure that a report is submitted after wellness is completed.
• Conduct hourly rounds and log the outcome of the event.
• Conduct room/dorm inspection to ensure that clients units are safe and free of hazardous conditions.
• Complete work orders and conduct follow-ups.
• Remove any contraband and complete reports.
• Write occurrence and incident reports when deemed necessary.
• Support and assist in enforcing shelter rules and regulations.
• Sorting and distributing client’s mails.
• Serve as a Liaison to the current atmosphere in the facility.
• Report incidents, accidents and client concerns immediately via occurrence/incident report.
• Collaborate with monthly fire drills and report outcomes on your assigned lead.
• Must be able to work flexible hours when needed.
• Attend mandatory meetings and participate in trainings as directed by the supervisor.
• Manages CARES, the DHS data base.
• Comply with all DHS Absorb trainings as scheduled by DHS.
• Able to lift about 50 pounds of weight, bend, and climb stairs.
• Retrieve client's belongings from storage as needed.
• Distribute client supplies as needed.
• Exchange client’s linen as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor when and as needed.
