Job summary

Breaking Ground in New York, NY invites applications for a Residential Aide to support individuals experiencing homelessness, maintain a safe, welcoming environment, and assist with daily operations at the Jamaica site. You will engage clients, monitor premises, and coordinate with program staff to ensure service delivery aligns with our Street to Home goals.

The role reports to the Shift Supervisor and requires the ability to perform rounds, document daily activities, and respond to incidents

Qualifications

  • Two years of related experience preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certified a plus.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the area and provide resources to clients.
  • Maintain a welcoming, safe, stable environment for clients.
  • Make hourly rounds within and outside the facility to ensure safety and security.
  • Record keeping including documentation of daily attendance, shift report, visitors, writing progress notes.
  • Greet people entering the site, determine nature and purpose of visit, and direct or escort them to destinations.
  • Circulate among residents, visitors, or employees to preserve order and protect property.
  • Complete intakes and property searches as needed, distribute mail.
  • Accept and log all food deliveries and serve meals to clients; complete food safety course.
  • Screen residents and packages to prevent prohibited articles into residence.
  • Use company vehicle to transport clients to appointments in the community as directed.
  • Provide relief support for 311 operations.
  • Facilitate onsite laundry and shower resources for clients.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supportive housing - affordable housing paired with services designed to help people maintain their homes for the long-term - is widely recognized as a proven and cost-effective solution to chronic homelessness.

But we didn\'t stop at providing housing. Breaking Ground\'s programs and services help people experiencing street homelessness - especially those who have been on the streets the longest - to come indoors. Through our Street to Home outreach program and transitional housing resources, we help people get, and stay, on the path to a permanent home.

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, t he Residential Aide will assist in ensuring effective service delivery . The R esidential A ide will provide staff support and maintain program stability by providing assistance and monitoring the premises. The R esidential A ide will be expected to engage with individuals experiencing homelessness as well as with Program and Outreach staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two years of related experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED), Associates degree preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certifications a plus
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and/or mental health or substance use issues is a plus
  • Valid NY, NJ, CT, or PA driver’s license with a good driving record, as defined by Breaking Ground is preferred
