Job summary

Sodalis Senior Living is seeking a Cook to assist the Culinary Director in preparing meals in line with approved menus and standards. Responsibilities include timely meal service, safety checks, inventory, and ensuring high-quality, appetizing dishes for residents.

You will follow recipes, comply with sanitation requirements, and work closely with staff to support a dignified and nutritious dining experience for residents in our community.

Qualifications

• Must have compassion and a desire to meet the nutritional needs of the frail elderly.
• General knowledge of basic food groups.
• Ability to read and follow a recipe.
• Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and hygienic methods.
• Be able to cook a variety of foods.
• Be familiar with cooking times and seasonings.
• Knowledge of low sodium, low cholesterol, and ADA diets.
• Desire to serve food that is palatable and pleasing in appearance.
• Ability to work cooperatively with staff, residents, and families.
• Must be able to function in an independent work environment.
• Must be able to handle complaints graciously and to take correction maturely.
• Must be honest and trustworthy.
• Must have food handlers' certificate or be able and willing to acquire within first two weeks of employment.

Responsibilities

• Report to work on time every day and carry out duties as scheduled.
• React to schedule changes in a productive manner.
• Identify safety hazards and report or correct them.
• Prepare and serve meals at 8 am, Noon, and 5 PM; times may change.
• Follow written menus and suggest menu improvements.
• Cover, label, date and store leftovers properly.
• Follow state and local food service regulations and proper temp controls.
• Ensure mealtimes are enjoyable; be attentive to residents.
• Eliminate food waste.
• Check food and supply inventories weekly and submit lists timely.
• Know residents' food preferences to avoid undesired meals.
• Daily clean kitchen, dining room, and pantry.
• Prioritize portion control and cost; minimize waste.
• Work with cleaning products; handle safety procedures.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
