Job summary

Presbyterian Living’s Westminster Place in Evanston is seeking a part-time Resident Assistant to provide direct and indirect care under nurse supervision. The role operates 11pm–7am with every‑other weekend shifts, and requires CNA certification with the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Qualifications

• Certified nursing assistant with Illinois IDPH license.
• Ability to speak/read/write English on the job using medical terminology.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic.
• Good communication skills.
• Interest in working with older adults.
• General knowledge of geriatric resident needs.

Responsibilities

• Carries out nursing care within the scope of training and assigned by the charge nurse.
• Adheres to Presbyterian Homes standards of care and policies.
• Guards residents’ rights.
• Communicates properly with co-workers, supervisors, other employees and visitors; supports residents socially and recreationally.
• Uses interpersonal skills to build relationships with residents.
• Assists residents with activities of daily living as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse.

$17.55- $21.00 Hourly Rate (Based on years of experience) plus shift and weekend differentials.

Westminster Place | Part Time | Assisted Living Department |11pm-7am| Every other weekend (Saturday, Sunday).

Position Overview

The main function of this position is to provide direct and indirect care under supervision of the nurse to a selected group of residents. This role can be in skilled care department or assisted living department. The minimum education, experience and qualifications for this position are: current certification as a nursing assistant with the Illinois Department of Public Health; able to speak, read, write and comprehend English skills needed to use medical terminology on the job; ability to do simple arithmetic; good communication skills; interest in working with older adults; and general knowledge of the needs of geriatric residents

Key Responsibilities

• Carries out nursing care with the scope of education/training and ability as assigned by charge nurse.
• Adheres to the policies and procedures of Presbyterian Homes standards of care of the nursing department.
• Guards residents’ rights.
• Communicates properly with co-workers, supervisors, other employees and visitors. Interacts with residents to meet their social and recreational needs.
• Uses good interpersonal skills in establishing a relationship with the residents.
• Assists residents with activities of daily living as needed.
• Preforms other related duties as assigned by Charge Nurse.

Qualifications & Skills

• CPR certified, Accredited by American Heart Association.
• Reading, writing, and comprehension skilled needed to use medical terminology on the job.
• Ability to do simple arithmetic.
• Good communication skills.
• Long-term care experience preferred but not required.
• General knowledge of the needs of general patients.
