Job summary

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a dedicated Initial Resettlement Caseworker in Abilene, TX to provide trauma-informed services to refugees and qualified immigrants, helping them achieve self-sufficiency through tailored service plans.

You will coordinate housing, medical care, transportation, and eligibility-based benefits while collaborating with local partners and staff to ensure timely and effective support for clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in human services; refugee/immigrant experience preferred.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in other languages spoken by IRC clients is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate pre- and post-arrival services, including housing, medical care, and transportation for clients.
• Conduct intake and develop individualized self-sufficiency plans and SMART goals.
• Provide services such as public benefit applications, referrals to medical/mental health services, and housing support.
• Monitor client progress and adapt plans to meet goals; document interactions per program requirements.
• Collaborate with coworkers and partner organizations; may train volunteers or interns.
