This position is responsible for carrying out R&D- related activities in pilot and laboratory facilities, often with limited supervision. Specific activities include performing routine and moderately complex production of R&D samples at pilot or laboratory scale, as well as small-scale manufacturing operations in pilot plant. Incumbent is required to work safely according to SG standards for EHS. May have to work different schedules to support production needs.
- Follow procedures to support R&D efforts as well as making a variety of R&D samples and small orders using laboratory scale equipment. Carefully record experimental data and document observations.
- Assist in maintaining inventories of raw materials, work in progress, and finished goods. Order lab supplies as requested.
- Perform equipment troubleshooting, part replacement, and obtain correct tooling for assigned tasks.
- Maintain a clean work area by cleaning and organizing the work place in accordance with the principles of 5S. Provide a safe work place and avoid contamination of high purity products.
- May train employees on equipment, operations, processes, etc. related to R&D activities.
- Follow procedures to conduct electric (static and rotary) and gas kiln firings: loading, programming and unloading of materials in kilns as well as screening, packaging, and submitting samples in ERP system for testing.
- Product manufacturing activities in pilot plant is required. Examples include, but not limited to: operating plant-scale or pilot scale equipment and material testing to produce product for pilot-scale testing or for full-scale manufacturing of customer product.
- Special Projects as assigned. Examples may include the design/construction of equipment or responsibility for operating & maintaining labs or functions.
