Research Technician – In Vivo

We are seeking an individual with contract research organization (CRO) experience and self-motivated Research Technician to join our rapidly growing team. In this role you will contribute to the company’s contracted study life cycle and execute client projects and programs. Specifically, you will be part of our cross-functional team executing in vivo studies and supportive in vitro responsibilities to advance our clients research and development (R&D) programs.
This role is a unique opportunity to join an early-stage, CRO startup. Research Technicians work under direct supervision of the Supervisor and general guidance of researchers and scientists. Research Technicians perform animal husbandry, facility operational procedures, assist with performing in vivo animal procedures and may assist with performing in vitro laboratory. This position is full-time within a laboratory on-site at our facilities located in North Grafton, MA.
Key Responsibilities:
● Ability to assist team and scientists in the preparation of electronic study forms independently for all assigned projects per SOPs and study protocols prior to study initiation.
● Prepares and assist in the set-up of procedure rooms or laboratory experiments with all necessary supplies, materials and equipment required for projects.
● Proficient to perform tasks in accordance with the internal SOPs, policies and study contracts.
● Performs technical procedures as applicable.
● Performs animal husbandry duties (feeding, watering, health checks, cage cleaning) for all animals housed in the facility.
● Maintains animal room records, including animal identification, health checks and room conditions.
● Observes, records and reports atypical study findings to veterinary staff or scientists.
● Disinfects and sanitizes vivarium and laboratory areas and follows disease control protocols for laboratory and animal facilities.
● Maintains and operates laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, autoclaves).
● Responsible for waste and biohazardous waste disposal.
● Reviews all records for laboratory equipment tests, (e.g. eye wash station, chemical shower, storage unit temperatures).
● Receive, distribute and assign procured animals, materials and supplies per SOPs and contract specifications.
● May prepare animal or sample shipment packages.
● May work under the direction of Supervisor or research/scientific personnel for breeding and colony management or contract research studies.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
● BS in Biology or related field preferred; AS in Biology or related field with 2+ years of experience; 2+ years of relevant professional work experience; AALAS certification preferred.
● Proficiently handles rodent species for handling and care.
● Requires strong self-management, organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
● Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic laboratory notebooking systems is preferred.
● Proficient to read and understand SOPs and study contracts.
● Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal and written) well with staff.
● Willingness to work a flexible schedule (off core hours, weekends, and holidays) as necessary.
● Personnel must be willing to avoid contact and exposure to rodents and small animals as multiple pets and animal environments which might pose as transmitters of disease into animal facility (i.e. farms, zoos, veterinarian offices etc.).
