Overview

The Haq Lab is looking for an enthusiastic and talented research technician to join our team at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute / Harvard Medical School. Our lab uses state-of-the-art molecular cellular and genetic approaches to study cancer therapy resistance, including immunotherapy (Gstalder et al, Cancer Discovery 2019; Schiantarelli J et al, Cancer Cell 2025) and targeted therapy (e.g., Montero et al, Nature Communications 2018; Montero et al, Cancer Discovery 2022). Some of our projects have involved the development of novel therapeutics to reverse resistance to existing therapies.

Our lab is part of the division of Molecular and Cellular Oncology, within the world-renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which offers a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with close interaction with other basic and clinical scientists including the Broad Institute at Harvard and MIT. This is an ideal opportunity for a highly motivated and committed technician to make an important contribution to understanding melanoma biology. The positions in this job family will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. In general, they will assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations, and recording results.

Responsibilities
  • Set up, adjust, calibrate, clean, maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Clean, maintain, and prepare supplies and work areas; may be responsible for ordering supplies and negotiating with vendors.
  • Conduct standardized biological, microbiological, or biochemical tests and analyses, including collecting information and samples from organic substances, such as blood, drugs, and animals.
  • Isolate, identify, and prepare specimens for examination.
  • Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries, including grant preparation and presentations; may co-author publications and participate in presentations.
  • Participate in grant application processes and manuscript preparation as required.
  • Maintain detailed notebooks of all work-related activities.
  • Monitor laboratory work to ensure compliance with environmental health and safety standards and standard operating procedures.
  • Keep up with relevant literature and research publications, providing intellectual and interactive commitment.
  • Develop, modify, and improve standard operating procedures.
  • Use computers, computer-interfaced equipment, robotics, or high-technology applications to perform duties.
  • Design and execute advanced experiments and set strategies.
  • Examine animals and specimens to detect disease or other issues.
  • Monitor laboratory budgets if applicable.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in biology or chemistry.
  • Knowledge of biological, chemical, or medical techniques is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to solve problems.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
