The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Project Assistant (REHAB Lab) for the department of Psychology within the School of Arts and Sciences. This position is particularly well-suited for post-baccalaureates seeking research experience prior to graduate programs in clinical psychology or medicine.


Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Assists day-to-day lab operations, as well as helping to coordinate two separate NIH-funded grants. One grant focuses on tobacco use disorder and the other grant focuses on cardiac rehabilitation.

  • Plays a critical role in ensuring the continuation of research activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience coordinating human research.

  • Experience working with SPSS, Qualtrics, and other data management and analysis software.

  • Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in one or more of the following areas: (a) research in behavioral medicine, anxiety, and/or substance use, (b) clinical trial coordination, psychophysiology, and/or (d) data management.

  • We will prioritize applicants with interest in clinical psychology, health psychology, and addiction science.

Equipment Utilized

  • Applicant would be trained in the use of all technology and equipment relative to the specific study procedures.

  • Examples of commonly used equipment and technology in study protocols include: Fitbits, accelerometers, digital audio recorders, blood pressure monitors, heart rate variability assessment, mobile phone-based data collection program.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The position will involve in-person attendance at several of our work locations, including 1 Spring Street, New Brunswick (the location of the REHAB lab), 593 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick (the location of one of the Cardiac Rehab facilities), and 331 Route 206, Hillsborough (the location of the second Cardiac Rehab facility).

  • The Research Project Assistant is expected to arrange their own transportation to our various research sites and should have a professional demeanor appropriate to a clinical psychology research setting and ability to work effectively within a coordinated team.
