Job summary

UC San Diego's Department of Psychiatry invites applications for a research assistant role supporting mouse model studies of substance use disorders. Under supervision, you will assist the PI with experiments, maintain the lab, and ensure safety and compliance.

You will perform basic wet-lab tasks, manage mouse colonies, genotyping, tissue processing, and data collection, coordinating with team members and reporting findings to the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED with lab experience or two years of college with science courses and lab experience.
• Experience with basic and general molecular biology techniques.
• Experience in general laboratory techniques.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and to follow instructions; maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to prepare solutions and measurements.
• Knowledge of library usage to locate journals and articles.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills; maintain equipment and supplies.
• Familiarity with MSDS and lab safety precautions.
• Experience with computer software including Access, Word and Excel.
• Experience with mouse handling, video processing and operant behavioral assays.

Responsibilities

• Assist the PI with multiple research projects on mouse models of substance use disorders.
• Maintain lab safety, manage mouse colonies, genotyping, tissue processing.
• Conduct basic data collection and analyses and interpret results.
• Communicate regularly with supervisor and maintain detailed records.
• Collaborate with team members and support administrative duties.
