Job summary

The University of California - San Diego Medical Centers is seeking a Lab Assistant to support a neuroscience research program led by the Principal Investigator. The role involves hands-on work with mouse models, cell biology, imaging, biochemical assays, and neuropathology techniques studying mechanisms of Alzheimer's and related neurodegenerative diseases.

You will maintain mouse lines and perform surgeries, histology, brain dissections, primary culture, and routine molecular biology tasks

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or GED with 1 year of lab experience or 2 years of college with science courses.
• Willingness to learn new techniques including CRISPR and fluorescence microscopy.
• Ability to follow protocols and maintain accurate records.
• Experience with basic lab equipment such as centrifuges, spectrophotometers, balances, pH meters, and electrophoresis.

Responsibilities

• Assist with standardized maintenance of mouse lines, surgeries, histology, and brain dissections.
• Perform basic cell biology and biochemical experiments and learn additional techniques.
• Record detailed observations and assist with data analysis for publications.
• Maintain lab reagents, supplies, and safety protocols; assist in protocol updates as needed.
