Job summary

The UCSD Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Research Assistant to support several projects studying mouse models of substance use disorders under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

Responsibilities include maintaining the lab, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, performing wet-lab tasks (mouse colony management, genotyping, tissue processing, behavioral assays), and keeping detailed records while collaborating with team members.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED plus two years of lab experience or two years of college with science courses and one year of lab experience.
• Experience with basic and general techniques in molecular biology.
• Experience in general laboratory techniques.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaboratively; maintain confidentiality.
• Experience with mouse handling.
• Experience with video processing and mouse operant behavioral assays.

Responsibilities

• Assist the PI with multiple research projects in mouse models of substance use disorders.
• Maintain the lab, ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
• Perform wet-lab tasks: mouse colony management, genotyping, tissue processing.
• Operate video-assisted equipment and behavioral assays.
• Collect and analyze data; maintain detailed records.
• Collaborate with team and communicate progress to supervisor.
