Job summary

McKinsey & Company is seeking a PhD‑level candidate to join the POP Assets team in North America. You will develop scalable assets and knowledge on organizational topics such as culture, people analytics, talent, organizational design, and leadership development, contributing to client work and knowledge generation.

You will collaborate with a broad network of over 1,800 knowledge professionals and consultants to translate research into actionable insights.

Qualifications

• PhD or DPhil in industrial‑organizational psychology, organizational behavior, labor or behavioral economics, data science, or a related field with strong emphasis on research methodology, machine learning, data engineering, AI, and/or advanced statistics
• Excellent research skills covering literature review, design, data management, analysis and interpretation
• Deep expertise in people analytics, talent, survey and assessment design, organizational culture, or leadership
• Strong proficiency with R or Python for data analysis and visualization
• Experience with statistics (ANOVAs, regressions) and ML, clustering, SEM, or network analysis
• Proven leadership in work or extracurriculars and ability to collaborate across levels
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay composed under pressure
• Proficiency in visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau, R Shiny)
• Experience applying AI/LLMs to behavioral/organizational research
• Coding in R/Python/SQL with scalable workflows
• Familiarity with cloud data storage and analytics tools (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Effective communication to non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable assets, assessments, and tools via foundational research and modeling
• Analyze survey, archival, financial, operational, and HR data to drive insights
• Partner with senior team members to support clients on people/organization topics
• Translate data insights into actionable recommendations
• Publish knowledge pieces and contribute to multiple publication formats
