Job summary

RDO Equipment Co. in California is seeking a Rental Triage Technician to inspect returning rental equipment, identify service and safety needs, and complete quality repairs that support fast turnaround.

You will experience a variety of heavy equipment, document condition, prioritize repairs for safety and fleet readiness, and communicate findings clearly. Diesel/heavy equipment maintenance experience preferred; valid work authorization in the U.S. required.

Qualifications

• Relevant mechanical experience: repair and troubleshooting of heavy equipment (construction, rental or similar) is required.
• Strong diagnostic and repair skills with knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and manage changing work demands while prioritizing safety.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and triage returning rental equipment; identify damage, maintenance needs, service issues and safety concerns.
• Document equipment condition and repairs; complete condition reports and manage work orders with details on findings, repairs and parts.
• Direct equipment through repair paths; coordinate movement between yard, shop, wash rack, ready line and staging areas.
• Perform quality maintenance and repairs; prioritize based on safety and fleet readiness; verify equipment is safe before returning to service.
• Support rental fleet availability; assist with PDI/RDI processes, damage estimates, and complex repairs when triage workload permits.

What You Will Do:

• Inspect and triage returning rental equipment: identify damage, maintenance needs, service issues, and safety concerns.
• Document equipment condition and repairs accurately: complete condition reports and open, update, and close work orders with clear details on findings, repairs, parts, and fluids used.
• Direct equipment through the appropriate repair path: coordinate movement between the yard, service shop, wash rack, ready line, and delivery staging areas.
• Complete quality maintenance and repairs: prioritize work based on safety, operational needs, and fleet readiness, then verify equipment is safe and operational before returning it to service.
• Support rental fleet availability: assist with PDI/RDI processes, damage estimates, customer-service opportunities, and complex repairs when triage workload permits.
• Relevant mechanical experience: previous repair and troubleshooting experience with construction, rental, or similar heavy equipment is required.
• Strong diagnostic and repair skills: working knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance, diagnostics, mechanical repair, and trade-specific tooling.
• Ability to work independently: prioritize changing work demands, diagnose service issues, and complete maintenance and repairs safely and efficiently.
• Accurate documentation and communication: strong computer, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Technical training preferred: diesel, heavy equipment, automotive, or related technical training or certification is preferred.
• Valid work authorization: Candidates must have valid work authorization and be able to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.
