The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in immigration removal defense, strong task management, and fluency in Spanish. Proficiency in Westlaw, LexisNexis, and case management systems is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or ABA-approved certificate; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years as a paralegal, with removal defense immigration experience.
  • Strong knowledge of immigration court procedures, USCIS forms, and INA.
  • Proficient in legal research software (Westlaw, LexisNexis), case management systems, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and maintain client files with accurate filing, indexing, and up-to-date records.
  • Draft and prepare motions, pleadings, briefs, affidavits, exhibits, and petitions (e.g., asylum, Cancellation of Removal, CAT, adjustment).
  • Maintain regular client communication under attorney supervision and provide updates.
  • Prepare and file documents with immigration courts, USCIS, and relevant agencies, meeting deadlines.
  • Assist attorneys in gathering evidence, conducting legal research, obtaining records, and preparing witness lists.
  • Support hearing preparation for master calendar and individual hearings, including binders and exhibits.
  • Perform translation/interpretation when applicable and translate documents as needed.
  • Provide administrative support: scheduling, calendars, and travel arrangements.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting our attorneys and clients through all stages of removal proceedings, providing essential administrative and legal assistance. Key Responsibilities:

  • Case Management: Organize and maintain client files, ensuring all documents are accurately filed, indexed, and up-to-date.
  • Document Preparation: Draft and prepare a wide range of legal documents, including but not limited to, motions, pleadings, briefs, affidavits, exhibits, and petitions (e.g., asylum applications, Cancellation of Removal, CAT, adjustment of status in removal proceedings).
  • Client Communication: Maintain regular contact with clients, providing updates, gathering necessary information and documentation, and answering general inquiries under attorney supervision.
  • Court Filings: Prepare and file documents with immigration courts, USCIS, and other relevant agencies, ensuring adherence to strict deadlines and procedural requirements.
  • Evidence Gathering: Assist attorneys in gathering and organizing evidence, including conducting legal research, obtaining records, and preparing witness lists.
  • Hearing Preparation: Support attorneys in preparing for master calendar hearings, individual hearings, and appeals, including preparing hearing binders and exhibits.
  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research on immigration law, regulations, and case precedents to support removal defense strategies.
  • Translation/Interpretation (if applicable): Assist with translation of documents and interpretation during client meetings or hearings if fluent in relevant languages.
  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to attorneys, including scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and making travel arrangements.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies or a related field, or a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal, with significant experience specifically in removal defense immigration law.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of immigration court procedures, USCIS forms, and relevant immigration laws (INA).
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in legal research software (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis), case management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
