Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Remote Water Resources Engineer to join a leading environmental consultancy. The role focuses on integrated water resource management, flood risk and drought planning, water quality assessment, and conservation initiatives across SA.

Strong modeling, GIS, and independent remote work capabilities are essential. The successful candidate will collaborate with government agencies, municipalities, and private clients to deliver sustainable water solutions

Qualifications

Master's degree in Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is required.
Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in water resources management and engineering.
Proven experience in hydrological and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM, MIKE suite).
Strong understanding of water law, policies, and regulatory frameworks in South Africa.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage project deliverables remotely.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
Proficiency in GIS software for spatial analysis of water resources.
Experience in climate change impact assessment on water resources is advantageous.
A reliable internet connection and a suitable home office environment are essential for this remote role.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive water resource assessments, including hydrological and hydraulic modeling.
Develop integrated water resource management plans and strategies.
Assess and model flood risks, and develop mitigation and management plans.
Analyze water quality data and recommend strategies for improvement and protection.
Design and implement water conservation and demand management programs.
Contribute to drought monitoring, assessment, and response planning.
Collaborate remotely with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams using digital collaboration tools.
Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations on water resource management topics.
Stay current with advancements in water resources engineering, hydrology, and climate change adaptation.
Provide technical expertise and guidance on water-related projects to ensure sustainable outcomes.
